When to visit New England???
« on: December 10, 2015, 02:23:05 PM »
We are coming to New England for 10 days next fall for the fall foliage The current plan is to fly in to Boston and rent a car. When would be the best time to arrive?

Well Lida, this is up for debate, It really depends on where you want to go if you can come at any time then you can focus on where more.
The basic rule of thumb is "the further north you want to go, then the earlier you have to arrive". Late Sept to early Oct you can start in northern Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. By late October you are looking at Connecticut and Rhode Island. and the last places to get the colors will be along the ocean.

Thanks for the reply Jeff. We have it narrowed down to arriving on either September 28th or October 4th. We plan on heading north to start and then slowly working our way south over the ten day period.  Any must see locations that anyone can suggest?

I'll start out with a 'must see' location in NH, Rte 112 between Lincoln and Conway, AKA as The Kancamagus Highway. It's one of the best fall foliage routes in New England. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Hampshire_Route_112

First photography is of the Swift River on the Conway side. Second photo is of Green's Cliff from one of the lookouts near the top of the pass.

Well Linda I would come in around 29 Sept 8 October. You would start up North in NH or VT in the northern areas and spend 2-3 days up there and then I would relocate to Central NH or VT for 3-5 days. Then you could explore the White and Green mountains and maybe a casual day trip to Maine. Then I would plan on the day and night in Boston to explore the historic areas there. Then the next day fly out.

Does this help?
here are two articles to try
